Summary:
Supervises Corrections Officers and/or offenders in the Bucks County Correctional Facility, Women's Correctional Facility and/ or the Community Corrections Center.
A significant aspect of the work involves the maintenance of discipline and security among the offenders and the Corrections Officers.
Position is responsible for administering constructive criticism, verbal and written counseling, and referrals for disciplinary action.
Work assignments require evaluative thinking and are carried out in conformance with standard correctional practices and general work instructions.
Participates with others in taking actions that positively affect the operation of Bucks County Correctional Facility.
Work involves regular exposure to unpredictable conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND
Responsibilities:
Ensure all officers are on duty per schedule, in proper uniform.
Conduct Roll Call.
Supervise and assign Corrections Officers, cadets, and trainees to daily work assignments.
Coach, Mentor, Counsel, and Train Corrections Officers.
Make corrections as necessary.
Evaluate and document job performance of cadets and probationary employees.
Make frequent tours of assigned modules to observe and document the performance of Corrections Officers while conducting routine institutional operations.
Unit Management Provide feedback up the chain of command.
Ensure appropriate security and sanitary conditions are consistently maintained.
Complete reports as needed.
Ensure all documentation submitted is accurate.
Perform institutional counts.
Conduct training when assigned.
Supervise Corrections Officers responding to institutional emergencies.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and offenders.
Adapt to changing technological innovations.
May be required to perform additional work that follows prescribed or well-established procedures that can be learned within a reasonable time by training on the job.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

High school diploma or equivalent Associates or bachelor's degree preferred.
Must pass pre-promotion written and video Ergonomics exam.
Must have a minimum of two years as a Corrections Officer or related experience in the correctional field at the time of appointment.
Must compete in merit selection process before a selection board.
Must have excellent communication skills when interacting with the general public, correctional staff, and offenders.
Thorough knowledge of care and use of firearms, batons, OC spray, Tasers, and other related equipment.
Must pass annual firearms qualification.
Keyboard skill of 20 WPM with knowledge of computer programs which include but are not limited to Microsoft Office, OMSE, Live Scan and EMS.
Attendance and Punctuality- must have a satisfactory attendance record.
Thorough knowledge of modern correctional theories, principles and practices as related to Correctional Officer duties and to the control of offenders.
Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the security of the Bucks County Department of Corrections.
Thorough knowledge of the methods and techniques used in enforcing discipline among persons under restraint.
Thorough knowledge of the housekeeping and sanitation measures required in the facility.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of individual and group behavior of persons under restraint.
Ability to enforce regulations tactfully, firmly, and impartially to staff and the offender population.
Ability to instruct, supervise and correct subordinates.
