Accounts Payable Specialist

Summary/objectiveThe Accountant will be responsible for the maintenance of various ledgers on a daily basis as well as the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable process, preparation of financial statements, account analysis, and assisting in the monthly accounting close, including general ledger entry preparation.
Working closely with the Accounting Team, the Accountant assists in confirming documentation and accounting numbers are accurate and completed in a timely manner.

Maintains accurate financial records by preparing journal entries for multiple entities and analyzing balance sheets and general ledger accounts.
Prepare customer invoice statements and assist with revenue recognition Assists with Accounts Payable process seeking approvals, entering transactions in accounting software while ensuring each transaction is coded to the proper department and account Research department questions and vendor statements; follow up on any discrepancies.
Reconciles bank accounts and credit card statements.
Provides financial status information by preparing reports; completing special projects.
Corrects errors by posting adjusting journal entries.
Maintains general ledger accounts by reconciling accounts receivable detail and control accounts; adjusting entries for amortizations prepaids; analyzing and reconciling retainage and accounts payable ledgers; preparing fixed asset depreciation and accruals.
Maintains accounting controls by following policies and procedures; complying with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements.
Assist in the preparation of the budgets, forecasts, and strategic plans.
Support annual financial audit.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required education and experience High School Diploma and Some college work is required Basic understanding of bookkeeping or accounting practices and procedures.

Preferred education and experience BS degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration.
Minimum of 3-5 years accounting experience is required; public or private sector, or in a public accounting firm is preferred.
Attention to detail and excellent analytical skills are vital.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Must be self-motivated, able to learn on your own, and work independently towards a deadline.
